Dr Steven Shoen

Dr Steven Shoen has over twenty years of experience treating hand and upper extremity disorders. He achieved certification in Hand Surgery, fulfilling the requirements set forth by the combine boards of Orthopedics, Plastic Surgery, and General Surgery.

Dr Shoen graduated with honors from The Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 1985. He then accepted a residency at Albert Einstein in General Surgery and Plastic Surgery including the Plastic Surgery sub-specialty of Hand Surgery. To consolidate his Hand Surgery training Dr. Shoen completed a fellowship year at Harvard Medical School under the direction of Dr. Joseph Upton, a nationally renowned Hand Surgeon and Microsurgeon.

After training Dr Shoen accepted an academic position in Plastic Surgery and Hand Surgery at Stonybrook Medical School in New York, where he built a busy Plastic Surgery and Hand Surgery practice.  While at Stony Brook Dr. Shoen also ran the Veterans Hospital Hand Clinic in Northport.  Together with his Orthopedic colleagues Dr Shoen mentored the Orthopedic Hand Fellow and Orthopedic residents in the field of Hand Surgery.In 2000 Dr Shoen and his family relocated to central New Jersey where he started his existing private practice.

His office treats all types of hand and upper extremity disorders including: Broken Bones, Cut Tendons, Injured Nerves, nerve compressive disorders such Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, growths, Dupuytren’s Disease, Arthritic Disorders, Trigger Finger, Ganglion Cysts, Tendinitis, Tennis Elbow, Birth Defects, Circulatory Disorders, Burn Management, Limited Motion, as well as Pain Disorders. He has authored journal articles as well as  textbook chapters.  Dr. Shoen has a clinical appointment at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School with a rank of Assistant Clinical Professor.  At the medical school he participates in the education of residents and medical students.    Dr. Shoen  has surgical and admitting privileges at four local hospitals, including Robert Wood Johnson Hospital and Saint Peters University Hospital.  He has been elected to Castle Connolly Top Doctors, as well as New Jersey Top Docs.

To offer complete care at his office Dr Shoen hired a Certified Hand Therapist,            Leah Rubino to provide in house Hand Therapy to hand surgery patients. Dr Shoen and Ms. Rubino regularly discuss their patients to assess progress and alter therapy or surgical treatment to maximize functional outcome.
