Birth Defects

Birth defects, or Congenital Anomalies of the hand comprise a large group of disorders ranging in severity with respect to cosmetic and/or functional effect.  The most common birth defects of the upper extremity include the presence of extra digits or finger webbing. In most instances surgical correction is undertaken before the patient reaches the age of two.

Dr Shoen completed a year fellowship with Dr. Joseph Upton, a renowned Hand Surgeon with expertise in managing birth defects of the upper extremity.
